Welcome To Brittany's Story
Our oldest daughter, Brittany, is very ill. She suffers from a horrific, debilitating, and rare disease called "RSD" (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy). RSD is a disease of the nervous system that can occur from something as small as a broken bone, a sprain from a fall, or even a minor infection. Brittany was a healthy 29 year old woman who accidentally tripped over a log and broke her ankle. This seemingly small accident led to her horrific case of RSD. She has had this condition for several years, and it has been progressively worsening despite multiple attempts to treat it. So far she has had two spinal cord stimulators implanted in her spine under her skin in an attempt to manage the pain, but both of these surgeries were unsuccessful. Sadly, her condition has been spreading throughout her body, and she now has approximately 20 pounds of excess fluid in her body, her limbs are frequently turning purple and are swollen, and she is in excruciating pain (RSD is a nerve disorder that is considered to be one of the most painful diseases out there).
A specialist, Dr. Schwartzman, from Hannaman Hospital in Philadelphia said that Brittany's case of RSD is one of the most severe cases he has ever seen; thus, Dr Schwartzman has recommended that Brittany see a doctor in Tampa, Florida in order to have a Ketamine infusion, which has proven to be successful in treating RSD in many patients. The doctor in Florida will give Brittany three days of Ketamine infusions. If this procedure works, she will need Ketamine booster shots all of her life. Unfortunately, this procedure is not currently covered by any insurance companies, and it will cost over $10,000 for the first treatment and thousands more each year for the booster shots.
If this procedure does not work, the next option would be to put Brittany in a Ketamine coma. We pray that the Ketamine infusion will work, and Brittany will not need to be put in a coma. If, however, she does, this procedure will cost approximately $150,000 - $175,000.
Although Brittany is disabled and bedridden at the age of 32, and despite all of the pain that she lives with, she always has a smile on her face. She has dreams of having a family of her own and leading a productive life. Brittany refuses to give up hope and neither does her family.
Please help Brittany beat RSD by passing along this website and donating to her cause.
Thank you,
